Optional tours programme

These tours are designed by Tour Hosts Destination Management (license No. 2TA001144), for participating delegates and accompanying persons of the XIII ICMDA World Congress. All sightseeing tours include informative English speaking commentary, all entry fees and meals where specified.

Places on all tours are limited and will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of payment. Where participants cancel their tour bookings prior to 9 June 2006, payment will be refunded in full. Thereafter, no refund will be made.

Tuesday 11 July 2006
OT1: Introducing Sydney
Time: 1230 – 1600hrs
Tickets: A$52.00 per person

Explore the vibrancy and style of cosmopolitan Sydney, one of the world’s most beautiful harbour cities. Discover colonial buildings and cobbled lanes in The Rocks, Sydney’s oldest historical precinct. Enjoy views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, a waterfront seat carved into the rock for the wife of visionary colonial governor, Lachlan Macquarie. Travel through Sydney’s fashionable eastern suburbs, renowned for their elegant homes and harbour vistas, on the way to world-famous Bondi Beach – a haven for surfers and sun lovers.

OT2: Blue Mountains 4WD Adventure

Let us take you off the beaten track on an intimate adventure tour of the Blue Mountains. Experience the magical beauty of the Australian bush, ancient landscapes and native flora and fauna – less than two hours from Sydney. Enjoy lunch in a leafy setting and breathe in the essence of the Australian eucalyptus. Marvel at the magnificent views of the famous Three Sisters and get up close to kangaroos, koalas, reptiles and birds at one of Australia’s award winning wildlife parks.

OT3: Australian Wildlife

Walk through a spacious, open koala enclosure and discover why the cuddly koala is one of the most loved and unique native Australian animals. The name is an Aboriginal word meaning “no water” - referring to the koala’s ability to meet its moisture requirements from a diet of gum leaves. Be photographed with a koala (at your own expense) and hand feed the free-roaming kangaroos. Meet other native animals including emus, wallabies, wombats and echidnas – at one of Sydney’s premier wildlife parks.

OT4: Colonial Quarter Walking Tour
Time: 1000 – 1200hrs
Tickets: A$45.00 per person

During this walking tour of Australia’s oldest convict settlement – The Rocks, journey back to the 19th century when The Rocks was Sydney’s colourful commercial and maritime quarter. This tour concludes in the Rocks where there is time at leisure to enjoy this historic precinct (Return transport not provided).

PTA: Reef and Rainforest

North of Cairns you’ll discover one of the most beautiful regions of Australia. Here, at the meeting point of an ancient rainforest and the Earth’s largest living coral structure, slow to a unique rhythm found only in Tropical North Queensland. Based in Cairns, highlights of the tour include swimming and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and discovering the beauty of the World Heritage listed Daintree rainforest.

PTB: Dramatic Red Centre
Tour Cost: A$1450.00 per person (Based on Double Occupancy)
A$2010.00 per person (Based on Single Occupancy)

Called the Heart of the Nation, the ‘Red Centre’ is arid, dramatic, vast, a land of extremes and home of Uluru (Ayers Rock) Australia’s spectacular monolith. Participants will also discover other geological wonders such as Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), Kings Canyon and more. Walk around some of the base of this huge monolith, view a magnificent sunrise and discover its significance to the Aboriginal people.
